This week I have been collaborating with a small team to develop a concept to shoot a Huddersfield university graduates collection. Lou Marie Wheatcroft studied fashion with textiles at Huddersfield and approached me to shoot her collection.
The collection was based on her grandmother and the retro working woman. There were many different garments from skirts, jumpers to aprons. From the outset Louise knew that she wanted to mix this collection with a more contemporary look in terms of the styling and makeup.
For the shoot we had Lou: Stylist Model: George Harrison MUA: Paige Brown. At the beginning of the day we decided to cover 6 strong looks, introducing a different set, props for each different look.
Back in 2015 when the collection was made I had the chance to see it shown at her graduate fashion show in Huddersfield. It was very interesting to see how the collection wa transferable from the catwalk and shot in the studio.
On the shoot I was playing about with bright coloured backgrounds and wanted to create a mini "set" to make the images more lifestyle rather than shot on a background. As I had different props such as chairs and plants to work with, this gave me the opportunity to produce some depth to my photography and it gave more of a narrative to the shoot.
